Ultra Tech's CNC expertise and joint venture with Pope/Setco earned a U.S.
Government contract to design and produce portable machining equipment to
drill holes in bulkheads of submarines that weigh nearly 500,000 pounds and
are 30 feet or larger in diameter. This technology is ideal for situations
when the work piece is too large or the location too remote, such as a
submarine or oil rig.
Powdered with hydraulic wheels, the machine has an XYZ stroke of 48" x 48" x
26" with more than 13,000 lbs. of continuous thrust on the z-axis. Other
features of the portable milling, drilling and boring machine include:
- M&G code programming
- Standard CNC programming language
- Spindle motor - 60 hp
- Maximum spindle speed - 150 rpm
- Hand held pendant for remote jogging
